What Our Clients Say About DSI

DSI, Dave Spence, Inc. provided water and mold remediation services as well as deconstruction/reconstruction of damaged areas, including Master Bedroom, Closet and Bathroom, Kitchen, Dining area, Living room, Entry.

Thanks to Dave Spence, we had a FANTASTIC experience with our rebuild.

My situation is a bit unusual. We are seasonal residents in Florida. I live in Michigan, our family winters in Tarpon Springs, Florida. In our absence, we sustained water/mold damage from a leaky toilet. I was in Michigan, when I got the news (11-18-10) from a friend who checks our place. I immediately called a well-known nation wide company to handle the project. Much to my disappointment, I was really dissatisfied with the service I received (0r did NOT receive, in this case). Upon arriving in Florida on 11-29-10, and seeing what was NOT getting done, I fired the first company and HIRED Dave Spence, Inc. to step in where I told the first company to leave off. He WILLINGLY and without skipping a beat OR WASTING ANY MORE TIME...took my project on immediately and began water and mold remediation. Even though our home is quite a distance from his home base, he treated our project as his most important project. He had a team working on it the next day and I immediately felt that the mold situation was under control and we could begin moving forward. I trusted his knowledge of mold and the products available to treat it. He treated the entire damaged structure and also treated/repaired and SAVED our furniture that the previous company had determined would be a total loss.

The next step in the project was reconstruction. Knowing I was in Florida for only a limited time, Dave made time in his schedule to put our project planning as a priority so that we could reach decisions about the details of the project like: vanity, tile, countertops, paint, carpet, faucets, sinks. Of course, I don't know where anything is in Tampa, being an out of towner. So DAVE personally took a day out of his valuable time and accompanied me to every store, making the process EXTREMELY efficient. Instead of me driving all over creation on my own (a directionally challenged snowbird!) looking for items that may or may not fit into the insurance claim, or may or may not be readily available, or may or may not be the best, most reliable company to work with... I was able to make choices on countertops, vanity, sinks, tile, carpet, paint...all within a matter of hours. I'm not kidding...I've done this kind of redecorating before and this process usually takes me months! With Dave helping to direct me to the places to make the best, cost effective choices, I was able to give him the information he needed to keep our project on track...and I mean on track. From start to finish he completed everything within just about 5 weeks...and Christmas was in there, too!

So, for the details on what they did...
The leak that was so small caused a huge amount of damage. Drywall was removed in all rooms to 4 feet up the wall, all bathroom tile was removed, the shower was removed, the bathroom vanity was destroyed, the kitchen tile removed, the kitchen cabinets and countertops removed, the subfloor, removed. And cleaned-up/hauled away debris, keeping my place "clean" at the end of the day.

Rebuilt shower-shower pan had sustained damage from water underneath, rebuilt subfloor, rehung drywall (you can't even see the line where it was patched :), replaced trim, replaced doors, painted all rooms, rebuilt new vanity, granite countertop, rebuilt kitchen cabinets, corian countertop, re-tiled kitchen, dining area, entry, master bath, master closet, shower, replumbed master bath, kitchen, fixed plumbing issues that arose (even those that were not part of our original project!). They reinsulated under the subfloor, too.

One of the other great things that Dave did was keep in close contact with my insurance adjuster and communicated with him regularly about our project. This kind of collaboration helped both Dave, the adjuster and myself stay informed and make decisions well.

I can't say this ENOUGH.....the project went GREAT!! These are the things that stand out for me as a client of DSI:

Dave Spence is a listener:
I called Dave after reading several great reviews about his services on Angie's list :) Upon my first call he was hesitant to take my job because Tarpon Springs is a long traffic-ridden fuel-gulping drive from his home base area. However, after listening to my story, his response was "Well, I can't promise you I'll take your job because the distance makes this job not very cost-efficient, but I will come and take a look and maybe I can offer you some friendly advise on your project." For a distressed person in my situation, 10 days into a project that was slipping into the "THIS IS NOT GOING WELL!!!" stage, I was SO grateful to have someone willing to offer friendly advice! Even if he didn't want to take my job-I appreciated his honesty and willingness to share his time and expertise. When he met me at my place, we could both see that there were certain problems not being addressed well by the first company...like where they had removed the vanity, they left a leaky pipe, dripping water into the very room they were trying to dehumidify, dry out and air-scrub! Dave went to his truck, brought back the exact part that I needed and fixed the leak, right there on the spot...he wasn't even my contractor yet!! I think that was the moment he took pity on me....and the next day (after I fired the other guys) he agreed to take my project. YAY!! What a relief!!

Dave Spence communicates:
I was in Michigan during most of the completion of my project, so Dave sent me updates almost DAILY-through email, or with pictures or with phonecalls. He kept me informed every step of the way....and I mean EVERY step of the way. If there was a hitch in the project, which there always is...like the countertop I picked out was on back order, or turns out the entire shower pan sustained damage....I knew about it right away and Dave always talked through my options with me to help me make the most informed and best decision for our situation. He values doing a job well and doing it right, and I truly appreciate the extra efforts he made to help me get educated about the decision I was making.

Dave Spence and his team have Integrity:
Dave and his team treated me and my home with respect and even my neighbors, and their homes/spaces with respect as well. We live in a place where it's pretty close quarters and this is important to me. Dave and his guys will not do a job unless it is done well. Besides taking great care in workmanship and detail on every piece of this project, Dave helped me to make the BEST-informed decisions, always. He always put forth the extra effort to make sure the project had integrity and that I was happy with the outcome. If there was a piece of information that turned out to be different than what we had discussed, I always heard about it and we discussed options. I need to remind you, because I believe the service I received was EXTRAORDINARY and I mean it-I was in Michigan for the majority of time this project took place. He always valued my opinion and took time to answer any questions I had. He always went the extra mile to keep my adjuster informed, as well. He took pictures of EVERYthing and every step, stage of the project, keeping the details in order and the overall breadth of my project easily understood. On my final walk through of the project, Dave wanted to make sure that I was not just "happy" but EXTREMELY happy...for example, there were a couple of "tweaks" that I was willing to make on my own...but upon hearing that a couple of places needed some touch up paint, and a couple of other little things needed some attention, he sent one of his guys up to FIX IT to my satisfaction.

I could not be happier with the outcome of this project, my place looks fantastic. It's fresh and new and what was a tragic, out of control disaster has turned into a beautiful welcoming (and even updated) vacation home that my family will be able to enjoy with comfort and confidence for years to come!!

We did a complete bathroom remodel. The job was to literally rip it down to the studs and renovate our second bathroom. The job included new dry wall, tub, wall tile, floor tile, paint, custom cabinets and shelves, and new fixtures. We basically
replaced everything.
I can't say enough about David and his team. The job finished a week early and on budget. He and his team were extremely professional, efficient, and skilled. They worked like a well oiled machine to have each part of the project come together without any wasted time and minimal impact on our daily lives. The completed project is an amazing transformation of our bathroom and we are going to use DSI to remodel our kitchen and master bath as well.

Dave Spence is a man of his word. In a world where you hear so much about the terrible experiences people have with contractors, Dave is the exception. We first met with Dave on the day after closing on the house. We purchased this property because of its location and were concerned with the amount of work it required. Dave assured us from the start that we would be very happy with the results of our remodel. Dave was very professional and took a great deal of time explaining the process with us and in answering all of our questions. He was a very good listener and was extremely helpful in discussing ideas and offering solutions. He was very respectful of our suggestions through out the entire project and was very patient with all of our indecisiveness. His crew was also very respectful of our property and worked in a professional manner.

Dave has a very high standard when it comes to quality and he was meticulous about it with this project. He used quality materials throughout and was not satisfied with even the smallest detail of the job until it met his expectations. He wanted to make sure that what ever he delivered to us exceeded our expectations. When we first started the project he told us that he would make us happy, and he did.

There should be a picture of Dave in the dictionary under the word responsive. He always returned our phone calls promptly, and if he did not have an immediate answer he would find it and get back to us very quickly. This responsiveness carried over into all aspects of his work and that of his crew. If Dave said it was to be done by a certain date, then it was done.

We were very happy with Dave and his crew from start to finish, and have and will continue to recommend him highly to others. When we have another construction job to be done, we know who we will call.

In late March a tree fell on my house and busting through the roof, trusses and drywall and causing water damage to the interior of the house. While trying to figure out how to go about repairing a house, noone would explain the process and procedures (this included Adjusters, insurance agents, and other contractors). As I was talking to David Spence (owner/operator of DSI), he quickly learned that I knew nothing about how to recover from such an event, so he stopped evaluating the damage and just explained the overall process from how to handle an insurance claim, to engineering plans, to permitting, to construction.

David suggested an engineering company to handle the reconstruction plans. When I interviewed the engineer, it became quite evident that DSI only associates itself with qualified honest businesses. (The engineer came in under 2 previous estimates, and the job was done quickly and correctly.) My insurance adjuster was a little difficult to deal with, but David took the time to help me deal with the insurance issues, by providing any and all documentation quickly and efficiently. However, it was 8 weeks after the tree fell that we were finally able to get to permitting (all of which was due to the insurance company's nit picking). I interviewed DSI about 3 weeks after the tree fell, and once David found out that I was living without airconditioning, he came over on a Sunday and installed a zip wall to block off the hole in my roof, so I could run the AC.

Once we submitted the permits, it took 3 weeks to get the permits approved. I received calls from David at the beginning and end of each week to let me know the status of the permits.

Finally, after 11 1/2 weeks of dealing with all of the red tape DSI was able to start work. They had the roof structure repaired and covered with new plywood on the first day, and alot of the work inside the house done in the first week, which included getting the drywall and insulation installed so I could run the AC without all the leaks. (David was very aware of how the work DSI was doing effected the homeowner, and what to do to reduce overall homeowner cost.) I received phone calls every day about the status of the work, which included what was done, and the plan for the next day. This allowed me to know what was going on instead of guessing each day when I returned from work. When they pulled up the ruined bamboo flooring, there was damage to the concrete from the flooring glue. David recognized the problem and called me immediately to suggest a solution, and once I agreed, the floor was fixed the very next day. If there was going to be a delay, which there were 2, I was notified immediately. The first delay was due to the roofing permit being delayed, and the second was due to rain, both of which delayed installing the new roof. When the weathr finally allowed them to start the roof, they were there on time and the roof was completed in a day and a half.

If David said something was going to be done on a particular day, it was done. His crew is professional and treated my home with respect. The DSI crew cleaned up any mess at the end of each day, both inside and out. DSI truly cares about the work that they do, and the people that they do it for. All of this ensures that as long as I live in Florida, and DSI is in business, I have my contractor.

David Spence added a covered front foyer to my home. All i had prior was a very small patio. We almost tripled the size and covered it. This was done to keep rain off the front door as well as give guests a dry area to enter the home. David also finished some soffit work and did some sidewalk rework at no charge
David does a wonderful job of explaining the work to be done and why it is to be done. I had 5 different quotes and his price was in the middle. David has a good insight on what customers need to know and never rushed me through my large list of questions. He was always on time and always remembered that I was the customer. I never felt pressure from him. His crew was polite and always prompt. In almost every area he overbuilt to ensure his work will stand the test of time. Every inspection passed the first time and he even recommended a good landscaper.

If you are considering remodeling do yourself a favor and call David Spence.

I had a water leak in the wall between the living room and family room. After the leak was repaired and the carpet either dryed or removed I called David. We made an appointment for February 10 in the morning. David showed up right on time and after looking over the damages said they could repair the wall, replace carpet, and paint the family room and living room
David, did a terrific job. They arrived when they said they would be there. They went above and beyond to insure everything was done correctly and to my satisfaction You can not tell where the wall was repaired, the family room look great, and the living room is nicer than it was originally

DAVID REMOVED A WALL TO OPEN UP THE KITCHEN AREA. HE INSTALLED A COMPOSITE BEAM TO MAXIMIZE THE OPENING. THIS ALLOWED THE CORIAN COUNTER TOP TO BE MOVED TOWARD THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. AFTER DEMO OF THE OLD KITCHEN NEW PLUMBING DRYWALL,ELECTRICAL WAS INSTALLED. THEN THE BRAND NEW CABINETS WERE INSTALLED WITH CORIAN COUNTER TOPS. CABINETS LOOK GREAT AND STILL DO !!
THE PRICES WERE GREAT AT THE TIME AND DAVID MADE SURE THAT ALL WARRENTYS WERE BACKING EVERYTHING THAT WAS INSTALLED. HE DID THIS NOT ONLY TO SAVE ME MONEY, BUT TO PROTECT THE CABINETS AFTER INSTALLATION FROM MOISTURE BECAUSE I WAS GOING BACK TO AFGHANISTAN AND DID NOT WANT TO RUN THE A/C IN THE HOUSE WHILE I WAS GONE. THE CORIAN COUNTER TOPS ARE GREAT AND WERE CUSTOM FIT FOR THE HOUSE. IN FACT THERE WAS A SMALL DEFECT IN THE LARGE COUNTER TOP AND DAVID HAD IT REMOVED AND REPLACED. MOST PEOPLE NEVER WOULD HAVE EVEN SEEN THE DEFECT BUT DAVID IS A PERFECTIONISTWHICH IS A GOOD THING !!!!!.

David was very responsive in setting up the estimate, and was prompt on arrival. He was efficient but took time to answer my questions. I was very impressed by his customer service. At the time he visited, one of the locks had broken and he reassured me that, although I hadn't found a replacement when I had looked at the home improvement store, the lock was standard and readily replaceable. He told me that if I had difficulty, he would come back up and replace it for me. (I had already scheduled an appointment with someone but with his encouragement, I ended up replacing it myself, saving the cost of paying someone.) Days to a week or so later, his sales manager Kevin Kelly came out to show me the color choices for the vinyl. I took some time to make a commitment. David and Kevin were very responsive to my emails and questions as I reviewed the my options in consideration that I wanted my purchase to qualify for the federal energy efficiency tax credit. Kevin came out a second time to remeasure once I signed the contract. They assured me that the doors would be ready in time for installation before the end of the year; they had placed a rush on the order which I had not expected. The doors arrived a little earlier than I had anticipated. I had about 1 week's notice prior to installation, which took 2 days plus a final brief visit. Mr. Kelly arrived on time. He awaited the delivery truck. (Initially the plan had been to deliver a day or two early but I expressed concerns about this and in the ended they took the shipper's offer to deliver the morning of the installation.) Not long after the doors were unloaded, the primary installer arrived (Russell). All throughout the process, they were professional, courteous, (even solicitous). They were very willing to move items I had not moved out of the work area in advance (and replaced them back after the work was completed). They were conscientious with such matters as avoiding tracking in dirt and my concern about preventing intrusion from snakes and other animals. They answered my questions when I occasionally checked in on their progress. They demonstrated pride in their work and product as they reiterated the virtues of their doors. On the second day, with the second door, they had to do a significant amount of extra work because once they tore out the original door, they realized that adjustments to the doorway were going to be needed (essentially, a raising of the doorway) in order to fit the frame appropriately. Russell reassured me confidently that this was not an unusual occurrence and he would be able to address it. It did take several extra hours as far as I could determine, but he was true to his word. I must note that I was not charged extra for this additional work. They adjusted the alarm system wiring to accommodate the new doors' movements without my having to contact the alarm company. There was a minor problem with the trim; it wouldn't set flat because it had been accidentally coiled. David scheduled the last visit according to my scheduling needs, taking less than an hour to finish off both doors. I was also impressed that In the evening after the final day of installation, the sales manager Kevin returned after the installers Russell and Alex had left, coming to apologize about the trim problem whereupon he also helped me better secure the alarm system contact on one door, which had been giving the installers difficulty as well, falling off once more after they had left. I am very happy with my doors. They are quite pretty, and they truly transform my rooms. I am very pleased with the work that was done. The attention to detail and quality was superb, as was the customer service. When I consider additional work, I will definitely consider DSI. I believe I made an excellent choice in selecting them.

Imagine the letdown of closing on our first house, a fine little place (or so we thought), only to discover within days that latent defects had brought the rain right in, down behind walls and under floors, leading to buckled hardwood, moldering carpet, soaked drywall and black mold. Then imagine a contractor who made us forget these sordid discoveries (well, almost), not just by fixing the flaws (which he did), but by enthusiastically taking up our larger vision of our home and bringing it promptly to life -- all with the skill, professionalism, courteousness and, above all, the integrity reminiscent of a bygone era of handshake agreements and an honest day's work. Thankfully we did not need to imagine this outcome because this is what we got. When we chose DSI's proposal over several competing bids, we knew very well our intention was to choose quality, thoroughness and honesty over cheap, quick and mysterious, but we could not have known how consistently Mr. Spence would maintain the standard, seeing the project through to its happy conclusion despite myriad moving parts and a steady series of surprises and unavoidable adaptations, occasioned by the peccadilloes (or outright defects) of past construction -- some of the costs of which he insisted on absorbing himself (at times over our protest) because he considered them (in retrospect) to have been at least partially foreseeable, a good example of integrity in action and not just in principle. Before finishing with some additional representative examples (the most efficient way to convey such an involved project, spanning many weeks), I'll state our conclusion: You can find cheaper bids, but hardly a better value than DSI. Whatever the contract says (and yes, of course, we worked with a written contract easily negotiated with Mr. Spence), you simply don't want to work with anyone at all if there's reason to worry about their capabilities or their word; with Mr. Spence we worried about neither. No one is superhuman and in a project of any complexity there will be oversights, miscommunications or errors (albeit in our case, only relatively minor ones); the difference with people like Mr. Spence is that he stands behind the agreement and his word and backs it up with action, and that, in the end, makes all the difference. Some examples of Mr. Spence and DSI in action: -- when a bedeviling rook leak persisted even after numerous leaks had already been fixed, DSI used a hose and strategically placed observers to track the source and path of water instrusion, pinpointing the leak and enabling repair and more effective remediation of water damage; -- Mr. Spence rode herd over numerous work teams and performed continuous quality control, insisting that (for example) several flawed tiles be removed and replaced from a supposedly "finished" kitchen floor and again in a supposedly "finished" shower; similarly insisted that garage floor painting be re-done since it had not been correctly applied the first time; similarly insisted that various drywall, texturing and wall painting flaws be corrected; similarly insisted that irrigation system include a rain sensor (as required by code); similarly insisted that custom cabinetry be corrected for flaws in finish; -- Mr. Spence proactively alerted us to several dangerous electrical wiring conditions (preexisting) so they could be corrected, and also to several inadequate plumbing arrangements so that we could make a decision about how to deal with them; --Mr. Spence proactively played devil's advocate when we faced ambiguous choices or judgment calls (a choice of materials or color, for example, or between competing solutions to questions of design, layout or functionality); --Mr. Spence employed subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, tile, painting, HVAC) with whom he maintains longstanding relationships, and managed and integrated them and their work into the project and its timeline, so that we experienced as seamless an effort as possible; --Mr. Spence promptly let us know when a planned approach needed to be amended (e.g., in light of wiring deficiencies) and always made sure we approved any changes before he made them -- nothing was assumed without our approval; --Mr. Spence and team rose above and beyond on numerous occasions, for example by polishing tired-looking kitchen hardware, adjusting out-of-alignment cabinets, and having the entire worksite professionally cleaned prior to our arrival, simply to make things nicer for us; by delivering supplies we needed even though outside the scope of his work; by removing debris we created even though outside the scope of his work; by advising on many ancillary home-improvement questions (and we had many, many such questions, such as pool-related issues, appliances, cabinet reglazing, security, safety, lighting, flooring, and landscaping) even though all were outside the scope of his work; --Mr. Spence always listened to our questions, took our concerns seriously, and took the time to explain things thoroughly so that we understood the processes and decisions (even micro-choices) involved; for example, constructing a new walk-in closet required consideration of not just where the entry door should be cut, but the type of door, direction of swing, width / arc, etc.; also, a new breakfast nook built-in bench required careful consideration of angles and depths, balancing bench storage with seating, custom cushions, etc. -- none of this was taken for granted or assumed for us, but instead Mr. Spence solicited our input at every step so that we would know exactly what we'd be getting; --In general, Mr. Spence took the time and thought to do things right, absorbing the pressures and tensions inherent in a complex project, shielding us from the brunt of the difficulties, yet keeping us intimately involved and connected to the details and decisions. --Would we work with DSI again? Not only would we happily work with Mr. Spence again, we have in fact already hired him for a new project on the lanai, now in process -- an action to speak with all these words.

This experience was yet another reminder to me that DSI is able to bring an experienced, professional, and enthusiastic team together to quickly and expertly do anything I need to have done around my house!

David Spence was a pleasure to work with throughout all phases of our recent remodeling project. David is a subject matter expert in the construction industry and holds a considerable amount of passion for his work, which can be a difficult trait to find when searching for a quality contractor. This was evidenced when I first signed the proposal in his office. Not only was his office neat and well organized, but he had multiple certificates and license information covering an entire wall. What we liked most about David and his company is the fact he maintained a high level of integrity and always kept his word. This in itself is extremely rare, especially in comparison to other companies that prioritize quantity over quality in pursuit of profits. During our recent drywall repair, David and his crew kept us updated on the work’s progress and even emailed digital photos to show the various phases of the repair (I had to work during the remodeling process and this was accomplished as a courtesy). David Spence Incorporated (DSI) made it an effort to protect our hardwood floors through the use of protective floor coverings and never left the site without cleaning up any remaining debris. Both David and his crew were always timely, often showing up five to ten minutes early. David even replaced our dated front door lock and handle with a new Venetian Bronze Kwikset kit purchased at Home Depot. He did not charge us for the installation and basically stated that if we purchase the lock, he would install it free of charge since it was a simple project. He recommended the Kwikset product due to its superior security features and ability to program different keys with the Smartkey.

David Spence (DSI Roofing and Construction) built our "pool house/guest house," which consists of a large great room with kitchenette, bathroom, and loft. The building is detached from our main house and its three sets of Pella impact low e french doors open onto the pool area. David constructed the building using metal framing with closed cell polyurethane foam insulation which results in lower energy costs, acts as a water barrier, and glues the roof together to make the roof stronger. In addition to the Pella impact doors with transoms, we used CWS impact low e windows. The grading, plumbing, and slab was poured in a matter of days and the framing was erected in two days. David installed a GAF dimensional shingle roof while also installing drywall and tile floors in the interior, and a 14 seer air conditioner and heating system with an exposed spiral air duct that really adds interest to the room. The outside of the building is stucco which really complements the existing home. The project was a little hard to get to as it is behind the existing house and landscape. David did an excellent job to minimize the impact on our lawn and existing landscape by building a utility road and installing a protective fence to keep construction debris to a minimum. When the construction was finished, David had the area cleaned up and the road smoothed out so that it was easy to install new sod.
David was fantastic from start to finish. He worked well with our architect, Eric Glinsboeckel, of G2 Design in St. Petersburg, to work through some design and construction challenges. David's communication skills were excellent--he kept us fully apprised of every step of the process and consistently kept his word. He managed all the subcontractors very efficiently and it was apparent that they all respected him. David worked very diligently to be sure that the job was completed in a timely manner with the least disruption possible. He stayed on top of each task done to be certain that it was done to a high standard. He always went "the extra mile" for everything he did for us. He is a perfectionist and obviously has great pride in his work--something that is lacking in many contractors. We obtained estimates from several contractors before we hired David. We feel extremely fortunate to have found him and to have had him take such great care in building our dream. David's construction of our little house took far less time from start to finish than it took our neighbor's contractor to complete some renovations!! We truly cannot recommend David and his company enough.

David was always courteous, professional, paid attention to every detail and was highly aware of not tracking in debris. It it always re-assuring to have a Contractor look you in the eye when you are talking to him and for him to "listen" when your wife explains her point of view. A lot of men ignore women when they are discussing construction issues but not David. All of his tradesmen were very polite, respectful and skillful. The removal of the old window and the installation of the new window were done quickly and efficiently. The stucco was replaced and painted to match the original surrounding surface. They cleaned up every day very thoroughly both inside and outside of the house. We highly recommend DSI and will definitely use them again!

David was recommended to me by the company that installed my fence. I called David and made arrangements for him to come out and measure all my windows and sliding glass door to give me an estimate. He worked with my busy schedule, which was fabulous. He emailed me the estimate with all the details on the specifications of the windows and sliding glass door. He made sure that it would meet the tax credit requirements along with TECOs requirements to get my refunds. David answered all my questions until I was happy and understood everything that I wanted explained...and I can ask alot of detailed questions. I am surprised that I didn't drive him crazy, but he was very nice and professional with me. Once I was ready, he came back to my house so I could sign the contract. He double checked the measurements and we went thru the entire contract throughly. He put the order in the very next morning. I received a status update by email that the windows were done and being shipped to them, and that I would receive a call once they arrived to setup my installation date. They were installed on time and they look great! I cannot express what a nice job David did! I would definitely use him again...my kitchen and driveway are next on the list. I decided to go with David after getting estimates from numerous companies...3 last year and 6 this year along with looking at a few others. I really did my homework in researching the companies, making sure they were licensed, checking with the better business bureau, and an overall google search just to see if there was anything to be concerned about. I had a very bad experience last year where a company almost got away with 3000 dollars of my money when I was trying to do windows...thankfully I got it back. So needless to say, this year I really did alot of research...I did my homework last year, but this year I went over the top to make sure I was picking the right guy for the job and I was fortunate to find David. I was lucky to find someone I could trust to do the job and do a GREAT job is what he delivered. I would highly recommend David to anyone! David, thank you so much...Susie.

DSI STARTED WITH REMODELING MY KITCHEN AND BATHROOM. I WAS ALSO HAVING A LOT OF OTHER MINOR WORK SUCH AS DOORS AND SHEET ROCK REPAIRED. AS SOON AS ALL THIS WORK WAS DONE MOST OF THE HOUSE HAD BEEN LOOKED AT AND EVALUATED AND REPORTED TO ME. AS I AM IN AFGHANISTAN THE PICTURES OF IN PROGRESS WORK HELPED WITH EVALUATING WHAT I WANTED TO DO WITH THE REST OF THE HOUSE. ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED IN THE TIME FRAME I WANTED AND ALL MATERIALS WERE FIRST CLASS. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAD ALL THE FLOORS DONE ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, A/C AND WINDOWS DONE BY DSI. THE HOUSE IS IN FIRST CLASS SHAPE AND I'M PROUD TO OWN THIS HOUSE !! I'M ALSO LUCKY THAT I WAS REFEREED TO DSI. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE DOING ANY WORK ON THERE HOME !! THANKS CHRIS FOREMAN BAGRAM AFGHANISTAN
WENT VERY WELL !!

It was all very good. He did exactly what the contract said. The cleanup was immaculate. They showed up when they said they would. I have seldom had a more pleasant experience with having work done in my home.

We recently used David Spence Contracting for a remodel of our kitchen and baths, and were very pleased with his work. Though he explained possible options for upgrades and made recommendations for things that may need to be updated in the future, he did not pressure us to make any changes we were not comfortable with and kept to the budget we discussed. David kept us apprised of what he was working on as he began each phase of the project, and even finished our remodel ahead of schedule. David is personable and professional and we would definitely recommend him to anyone considering remodeling their home.

Patty Truax Stewart, AMS Community Manager, Westchase Community Assoc.

David Spence performed an outstanding job in all phases of the construction of the office building and provided quite detail in the administration of the project. We would strongly recommend him and his company for another similar project

Jon Stoutamire November 2009 2nd Story Window

We hired David Spense, Inc. (DSI) to remove a large upstairs window and replace it with a Class 5 Hurricane rated window. They had to use scaffolding to reach the top of the arch. He also had to remove our Plantation Shutters on the inside, repaint the inside walls and reinstall the shutters after the window was installed. David was always courteous, professional, paid attention to every detail and was highly aware of not tracking in debris. It it always re-assuring to have a Contractor look you in the eye when you are talking to him and for him to "listen" when your wife explains her point of view.

He painted the outside of my house and installed a new sliding patio door. It was all very good. He did exactly what the contract said. The cleanup was immaculate. They showed up when they said they would. I have seldom had a more pleasant experience with having work done in my home

Repaired drywall that was damaged during a recent plumbing job that was performed by another company, not DSI. Replaced the front entry doors (jambs and all). The plumbing company we used didn't provide drywall repair services, so I had to locate someone else to do that work. Around that time I went to a local hardware store to buy supplies for a small job I was going to do in my house. While I was there, David Spence took time away from his shopping to come to my rescue when he saw that I was struggling to obtain qualified assistance from the store's staff. Using his finely honed diplomatic skills he managed to break through my frustration and make me listen. I took David's advice and business card, and then went home thinking that maybe I'd just met someone who not only could repair the holes in my walls but also install the set of front-doors I'd just ordered from the hardware store. I called David and asked if he would come out and provide an estimate for the two jobs. Both David and his manager, Kevin, came out for the estimates. Both were easy to talk to, and both actually listened to what I had to say. I could tell that communication with this company was definitely not going to be an issue. On the day the work began, David and his crew arrived at exactly the time David said they would. This was a very pleasant surprise, as was the fact that he brought an army of people with him. David and his army completed the work in much less time than I'd anticipated, yet they never seemed rushed. I was kept up-to-date throughout the job, and always by either David or Kevin. I was given ample opportunity to review the work at various stages, and then of course at the end before all the workers left. As I'd said, I knew communication with this company would not be an issue. But the amount, and quality, of communication was very surprising. These reviews and conversations not only simply kept me up to date, but they also helped to educate me about the materials and workmanship being used, all of which alleviated any concerns I might have had (though I had none) about the value I was getting. Once the work was completed, DSI didn't just grab their equipment and run. No they vacuumed and swept too. They didn't simply ask if we wanted them to clean up, and others have done to us, they just did it. From beginning to end our experience with DSI was pleasant, professional, and full of nice surprises.
